Biography/Profile

Gordon E. Gatherum was born on October 22, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his B.S. (1949) in Forest Management from the University of Washington, M.S. (1951) in Range Management from Utah State University, and Ph. D. (1959) in Silviculture-Plant Physiology from Iowa State University. His professional experience included the positions of Forest Cruiser and Mapper (1949), Research Aid (1949) at Utah State University, Teaching Assistant (1950-1951) at Utah State University, Research Aid (1950) for the Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Expt. Station, Range Conservationist (1951) for the Soil Conservation Service, Assistant Professor of Agronomy (1951-1953) for Texas Tech College, and Instructor of Range Management (1953) for Colorado State University. He arrived at Iowa State University as an Assistant Professor (1953-1959), Associate Professor (1959-1963), and Professor (1963-1969).

Dr. Gatherum was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Sigma Nu, Xi Sigma Pi, Sigma Xi, and Alpha Zeta. He married Patricia Jeanne Brandley on July 31, 1947, and has three children.
