Biography/Profile

Albert Eugene Freeman was born March 16, 1931 in Lewisburg, West Virginia. He received a B.S. (1952) in dairy husbandry and an M.S. (1954) in animal breeding from West Virginia University. Freeman earned his Ph.D. (1957) from Cornell University.

After receiving his Ph.D., he accepted a position at Iowa State College (University) in the as an Assistant Professor (156-1961) in Dairy Husbandry. He was promoted to Associate Professor (1961-1965) and to Professor (1965-2000). Freeman was named Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture (1978), and became Professor Emeritus (2000) upon his retirement.

Freeman's research interests include dairy cattle breeding with emphasis on improving methods of sire and cow evaluation; breeding goals; efficiency of production; milk composition; mitochondrial function-molecular and phenotypic; genetic differences in immunocompetence; and adjusting for preferential treatment in dairy cattle evaluations.
