The University Recreation Committee was formed with the purpose of developing new campus recreational opportunities to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff, and managing and evaluating current recreation programs, facilities, and equipment. This committee would then make recommendations to the Vice President for Student Affairs based on their evaluations and reviews.

The University Recreation Committee would also communicate and interact with the city of Ames. Meetings were held each month during fall and spring semesters and most files contain yearly reports of the topics discussed at each meeting along with meeting minutes.
