The Iowa Board of Regents, originally named the State Board of Education, was oversee five public educational institutions in the state: the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, the Iowa School for the Deaf, and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School. They govern these institutions through policymaking, coordination, and oversight, as provided by law. Prior to 1909, Iowa State College (University) was governed by the College Board of Trustees.
