Biography/Profile

The American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) was established and incorporated in Washington, D.C., in 1949 as an organization to solve specialized problems in the teaching, research and practice of veterinary pathology. Further objectives of the organization are to supplement scientific progress in veterinary pathology; establish standards of training, experience, and examination for qualification of specialists in veterinary pathology; and further the recognition of such qualified specialists by suitable certification and other means. ACVP has established standards for training and experience, and runs certifying examinations recognized by the American Board of Veterinary Specialists of the American Veterinary Medical Association in order to certify professional competency for veterinary pathologists. Activities of the organization also include an annual meeting and a peer-reviewed scholarly journal entitled Veterinary Pathology. The Council is the governing body of the ACVP, and its duties can be found in the bylaws. Members of ACVP are board-certified scientists from the United States and other countries.
