Biographical / Historical
Robert Byron Bird was born August 5, 1888 in Webster Co., Iowa. He attended Iowa State College (University) and recieved his B.S. (1912) in Civil Engineering. After graduating from Iowa State, he went to graduate school at the Universiry of Wisconsin and recieved his M.S. (1915) in Civil Engineering.
He served as a civil engineering professor of three universities, and as a military officer during both World War I and World War II. He also worked as a consulting and city engineer in many cities. Much of his professional career through was spent at the U.S. Engieers' Office at Washington D.C. solving water supply problems related to the fast growing urban population in D.C.
Byron Bird died September 14, 1971 in Dayton, Ohio. He had a son, Robert Byron Bird, Jr., who was also an engineer and professor.
