Scope and Contents
This collection contains both materials authored by Hanko and those which he collected on topics of interest to him, as well as materials written about him (book reviews, newspaper clippings), and correspondence. Sermons, pamphlets, book drafts, and numerous letters to the editor are included in these materials, largely concerning evangelical or fundamentalist Christianity, American politics, economics, the Republican party, and religious-based education in the United States.

Biographical / Historical
Born in 1920, Charles W Hanko was a Congregationalist minister, educator (in religion and economics), and newspaper columnist in the middle 20th century. His published works included sermons, pamphlets, lectures, and books on evangelicalism, fundamentalism, American politics, capitalism, communism, and the role of Christianity in civil society, as well as church history and religious movements. He was an active member in the Republican party and engaged in correspondence with many prominent national and local political figures. He spent much of his life in and around Pennsylvania, the Gulf Coast, and in his later years northern Iowa. He died in 1990.
