Biography/Profile

The Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University was established in 1870 with courses being taught in 1869. Graduate work leading to the degree of Master of Science was offered before 1881 and doctoral work in Applied Mathematics was added in 1934. In 1938, the Mathematics Department along with the Department of Physics offered courses in Mathematical Physics. In 1940, doctoral work in Mathematical Physics was added to the course offerings of the department.
