Headquartered at Iowa State University and hosted by the College of Business, the SBDC manages over a dozen regional offices located throughout the state. These regional assistance centers work with nearby universities, community colleges, and other institutions to offer support to local businesses by offering free consulting services and by providing training in management, finance, and business operations. SBDC staff also conduct research and make available comprehensive information resources to local business people.

The Iowa SBDC is part of a national program guided and funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Through cooperative agreements with schools and other private and public institutions, the SBA has established over 1,100 full service assistance centers nationally.
