Biography/Profile

The Iowa State University Veterinarian was a non-profit publication that was published entirely by students studying Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. It was started in 1938 and was originally titled The Veterinary Student. Articles were written by students and faculty in the department and also contained condensed reports of research, interesting case reports and many other topics. In 1950 the name was changed to the Iowa State College Veterinarian and when Iowa State College became Iowa State University the publication became the Iowa State University Veterinarian.

The objectives of this publication, as stated in the constitution, were to act as the official publication of the Iowa State University Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association, to stimulate interest in the field of veterinary medicine outside of academic endeavor, to provide a medium whereby students of veterinary medicine can express themselves if they so choose, and to promote a closer relationship between the College of Veterinary Medicine and its alumni.

The Iowa State University Veterinarian was financed through advertisements, university contributions and through the support of the ISU Veterinary Medical Alumni Association. It ceased publication in 2001.
