Arnold Family papers
Scope and Content
This collection (1929-1959, undated) contains materials from the Arnold family including a diary, marriage certificate, college diplomas, letters, and photographs of Iowa State's VEISHEA parade. The majority of the materials document are from Lloyd and include a diary from 1959 recording his time living in Fresno, California, his affiliation with the Certified Alfalfa Seed Council, and his work marketing alfalfa seed for the Arnold-Thomas Seed Service. He describes in detail a trip back to the Midwest (May 29-July 16) in which he meets with representatives from a number of seed dealers, including Pioneer in Des Moines. Throughout the diary he notes meetings with friends and family, daily activities, and events in the news such as the results of sports competitions and the launch of the Soviet's Luna 1 satellite. Other materials include Lloyd’s Master’s degree diploma, photographs of VEISHEA, marriage certificate and wedding photograph. Materials related to Donna include her diploma, two letters from “Jim,” and graduation invitations and program.

Biography/Profile
Lloyd E. Arnold (1902-1987) from Hornick, Iowa, received his B.S. (1926) in Farm Crops and Soils and his M.S. (1931) in Crop Breeding from Iowa State College (University). As a student he was involved in a number of student organizations including Alpha Sigma Phi, Athletic Council, Basketball, Grain Judging Team, and Interfraternity Council. After graduation, he settled in Fresno, California, and was involved in the growing and marketing of alfalfa seed. He married Eula Fisher in 1929.
Donna L. Arnold was the daughter of Lloyd and Eula Arnold. She received her B.S. (1954) in Botany from Iowa State College (University). As a student she was involved in Botany Club, Science Women’s Club, Promenaders, the student radio station KMRI, and a group called the Twisters.

Abstract
The Lloyd E. Arnold family counts at least two members as graduates of Iowa State University: Lloyd and his daughter Donna. This collection contains materials related to these two members of the Arnold family and their time at Iowa State. The collection contains diplomas, letters, marriage certificates, photographs of Iowa State's VEISHEA festival, and a diary documenting Lloyd's work marketing and growing alfalfa seed.
