Victor Wayne Bolie was born July 23, 1924 in Silverton, Oregon. He received his B.S. (1949) in Physics, a M.S. (1950) in Math, and a Ph.D (1952) in Applied Mathematics from Iowa State College (University) He also received a B.A. (1957) in Chemistry from Coe College and a M.A. (1959) in Physiology from Stanford University.
Prior to coming to Iowa State, Dr. Bolie accepted an engineering position (1952) at Collins Radio Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he was a consultant, teacher and supervisor, later to be promoted to Staff Assistant to the Director of Engineering, then became Staff Assistant to the Vice President of Research and Development. In 1957 he accepted a position at Iowa State University as Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering where he organized an academic program in Medical Electronics. In 1962 he became Chairman of Biomedical Electronics. He is currently on staff at the University of New Mexico where he is Professor Emeritus in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.
Dr. Bolie was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Mu Epsilon, Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi and the Osborn Club at Iowa State University. His professional memberships included the Institute of Radio Engineers, American Institute of Electrical Engineers, American Physiological Society, American Society of Veterinary Physiologists and Pharmacologists, and Iowa Academy of Science. He also belonged to the Institute of Radio Engineers Professional Group on Bio-Medical Electronics, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers Committee on Engineering in Medicine and Biology, and the Iowa Academy of Science Committee on Finance and Endowment. He has published over 50 research papers and holds 20 patents.
