Abstract Founded in 1904, the Cardinal Guild was the origin of student government at Iowa State. Originally a single body, the organization eventually evolved into a three-branched system of student government: Senate, executive cabinet, and a court. The Cardinal Guild changed its name in 1962, becoming the Government of the Student Body (GSB).
