Della Neal was born on November 22, 1862 in Hamilton, Pennsylvania. She earned her B.S. (1882) from Iowa Agricultural College (Iowa State University). Neal eventually completed training in nursing and became active in the state and national temperance movement. This collection includes some of Neal's writings, including college course work and writings on the temperance movement.

The collection contains biographical information and correspondence. The bulk of the collection consists of numerous publications mostly on plant rust fungi (Uredinales), including the manuscript for The Plant Rusts (1929).
This collection (1879, 1881) consists of two letters written by Estes. The letters are addressed to an unidentified Lizzie and discuss Estes' experiences during her time at Iowa Agricultural College (Iowa State University), including social outings, classes, and dorm life.
